š”What I Learned About Introspection and Why It Matters So Much
Here we go.
Thereās something sacred about sitting with yourself but not the curated version of you the world claps for. Iām sitting here typing about the real you, the oftentimes tired, stretched-thin, rising-anyway version of you, the one who has had to remember who they are repeatedly just to keep going.
Sigh. I know that version intimately.
Before and even as I stood on stages, facilitated workshops, or stepped into academic spaces, I was living the full weight of life: caring for others, starting over, being overlooked, starting over, rebuilding, and raising millions for others while forgetting to tend to meāand guess what? I was starting over. What many saw as strength was often my survival mode cloaked in grace. š¤¦š¾āāļø
But grace has a way of teaching.
Through years of performing arts, adult education, faith-rooted service, and medical education work, I found myself standing in what looked like a full circle. Yet it wasnāt a return. It was a realization. I wasnāt just participating in systems. I was positioned to help transform them, but I needed transformation, too! š¤Æ
š¤ Introspection Was My Turning Point
We often hear the phrase āimposter syndromeā tossed around, but very few talk about the slow, soul-level undoing it requires to escape it. Introspection was the bridge. It taught me my worth was not up for negotiation, even when others didnāt recognize it. It taught me the weight of lived experienceācaregiving, performing, building, and serving werenāt something to hide behind polished credentials. It was the credential. Only after living through every twist of my journey did I understand that I wasnāt supposed to choose between the roles Iāve played. I was meant to fuse them. Imagine that. The weight of our lived experience IS our credential!
šāļøš The Fusion: Performing Arts + Medical Education
These past few years of quiet time, focusing on myself, I chose to answer a particular call: I decided to fuse my performing arts background with my adult education expertise to support medical students, healthcare staff, and providers, not just to teach but to awaken; not just to inform but sometimes to restore their belief in themselves so they can keep pressing toward the mark of excellence. Through interactive performance-based experiences, storytelling, and empathic communication training, I work alongside medical educators, with medical students, residents, fellows, and other medical professionals to help them:
- Build trust across cultural and generational lines
- Lead with compassion without burning out
- Keep the faith while executing service
- Improve communication in ways that uplift both provider and patient
My work is because being brilliant in medicine doesnāt mean leaving your humanity behind; being whole in your career shouldnāt cost your soul.
āļøWhat Comes Next
This is the first of many reflections Iāll be sharing. Insights on empathy. Lessons from the bedside and the stage. Strategies to help others, especially those rebuilding, move through imposter syndrome and into impact. If you believe in soul-rooted leadership, in the power of voice and vulnerability, or in the intersection of education, empathy, and equity, stay with me. Iāve walked through the valley. Now, I speak from a better place so others can find their way, like I have. Weāve got this.
Letās do the work together.
